Quinta Brunson arrived at the 2026 Emmys dressed like she had already moved on to the next chapter.
The Abbott Elementary creator and star stepped onto the red carpet in a form-fitting Christian Gowan dress that had only just appeared on the runway at New York Fashion Week days earlier. The fresh-off-the-runway choice gave Brunson’s Emmy night look a distinctly current feel, fitting for a creator preparing to take her hit comedy into its next era.
But there was plenty at stake beyond the fashion.
Brunson entered the ceremony with three nominations tied to Abbott Elementary, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Janine Teagues, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for “Team Building” and Outstanding Comedy Series as an executive producer.
The nominations bring her career total to 15 Emmy nods. She has already won twice, taking home the writing award for the Abbott Elementary pilot in 2022 before winning for her performance as Janine the following year.
Now, however, Brunson is looking ahead.
She has been open about wanting Season 6 to have more direction after feeling that the previous season occasionally wandered creatively. Rather than simply keeping the sitcom moving, she wants the new chapter to feel more deliberate.
That shift comes at an important moment for the series. Season 6 premieres October 7 and will bring Abbott Elementary to its 100th episode, another major milestone for the comedy Brunson built from the ground up.
