Chioma Akpotha Celebrates 46th Birthday in Regal Edo and Igbo-Inspired Looks

Turning 46 looked very good on Chioma Akpotha.

The Nollywood icon celebrated her birthday on March 12 with not one but two standout looks that paid tribute to Nigerian traditional fashion while still leaning fully into glamour. The actress who won Best Lead Actress at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for her role in Seven Doors stepped into this milestone year with style clearly at the forefront.

For her first appearance, Chioma leaned into the elegance of Edo ceremonial dressing. She wore a floor-length burgundy velvet gown cut in a sculpted mermaid silhouette that hugged the body before opening into a wide train behind her.

The bodice featured a striking central panel packed with coral beads and pearls, creating a rich focal point against the deep velvet fabric. Across the rest of the dress, gold floral embroidery and tiny gold studs added texture and depth.

The velvet train extended behind her, giving the look even more presence and drama.

Her accessories completed the Edo inspiration beautifully. An Okuku coral crown sat proudly in her hair, while multiple strands of Ivie coral beads layered around her neck and wrists. She also carried a traditional black horsetail whisk with a beaded handle, reinforcing the ceremonial feel of the look.

Her makeup stayed soft and matte, allowing the bright coral jewellery to remain the visual highlight.

For her second look, Chioma turned to Igbo ceremonial fashion with a glamorous twist.

She wore a slim-fitting floor-length gown in a rich wine tone, decorated with intricate gold and tonal embroidery. The bodice featured a plunging sweetheart neckline with sheer mesh detailing, while the off-shoulder sleeves were finished with beaded fringe that moved gently along the arms.

Once again, coral jewellery played a central role. A bold multi-layered coral necklace finished with a large gold pendant added richness and cultural symbolism to the outfit.

Chioma completed the look with a gold clutch and styled her hair in a sculptural updo accented with wine and rose-gold fabric arranged into a crown-like shape.

Two looks. Two cultural inspirations. One unforgettable birthday moment.

With these richly detailed ensembles, Chioma Akpotha reminded everyone why she remains one of Nollywood’s most admired stars, effortlessly blending tradition, elegance, and modern glamour as she celebrates another year.
