Anne Hathaway Wears Valentino Rockstuds at The Devil Wears Prada 2 Tokyo Premiere

A subtle fashion callback, a couture moment, and a nod to Miranda Priestly — all in one look.

Anne Hathaway is continuing her press tour style streak and this time, she’s dipping into fashion nostalgia with a knowing twist. At the Tokyo premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the actress stepped out in Valentino Rockstud pumps, proving that even the most familiar pieces can feel fresh again in the right context.

Held at Roppongi Hills Arena, the premiere saw Hathaway join Meryl Streep on the red carpet in a dramatic couture look from Valentino’s Spring 2026 collection. The strapless black silk gown featured a crisp white peplum waist and a cascading ruffled skirt, delivering a silhouette that balanced structure with movement. A folded bodice panel lined in Valentino’s signature red added a sharp, graphic contrast, one that quietly echoed the film’s iconic color palette.

Styled by Erin Walsh, the look was finished with delicate gold and diamond jewelry from Bulgari. But it was the footwear that carried the real narrative weight.

Hathaway opted for an updated version of Valentino Rockstud pumps, an off-white leather pair defined by pointed toes, pyramid studs, and signature strap detailing. First introduced in 2010, the Rockstud has become one of Valentino’s most recognizable designs, now reimagined under creative director Alessandro Michele for a new era.

The choice wasn’t just aesthetic, it was intentional. The studded heels subtly referenced Meryl Streep’s Roman Stud pumps in the sequel, a detail that ties Hathaway’s red carpet moment back to the film’s fashion narrative.

Set for release on May 1, The Devil Wears Prada 2 revisits Andy Sachs as she returns to Runway magazine under Miranda Priestly, navigating a rapidly evolving media landscape alongside familiar faces, including Emily Blunt.

The Tokyo premiere follows earlier stops on the global press tour, including Mexico City, where Hathaway delivered equally headline-making looks in Schiaparelli and Stella McCartney. With upcoming appearances scheduled across Seoul, Shanghai, New York, and London, this fashion run is only just getting started.
