BAPE x Vans Bring Streetwear Heritage Back to the Knu Skool

Streetwear’s enduring fascination with camouflage gets another bold chapter as Vans and BAPE reunite for their third collaboration, this time reworking the chunky Knu Skool silhouette through the unmistakable lens of the Japanese streetwear giant.

Launching on July 15, the collection arrives with two statement colourways that fuse Vans’ skate heritage with BAPE’s instantly recognisable visual language. More than simply applying camouflage to a sneaker, the collaboration feels like a celebration of two brands that helped define the aesthetics of the late ’90s and early 2000s, now revisited for a new generation.

The Knu Skool, already distinguished by its oversized proportions, padded tongue and exaggerated side stripe, provides the ideal canvas for BAPE’s maximalist identity. Both pairs feature full canvas uppers covered in the label’s iconic ABC camo, arriving in a restrained black version alongside a vibrant mix of pink, purple and green.

Rather than blending their signatures together, each brand maintains its own visual identity. BAPE’s iconic STA logo replaces the traditional side stripe on one side of the sneaker, while Vans’ enlarged Sidestripe remains on the other, creating a deliberate dialogue between the two labels instead of allowing one to overpower the other.

The collaboration extends beyond the upper. Shark-tooth graphics wrap around the forefoot of the vulcanised midsole, referencing one of BAPE’s most recognisable design codes, while metallic Ape Head lace dubraes, oversized laces and “A Bathing Ape” branding along the sidewall reinforce the collaboration’s premium finish. Underfoot, Vans’ signature checkerboard outsole quietly reminds wearers of the sneaker’s skateboarding roots.

Although the Knu Skool only recently returned to prominence, its exaggerated proportions already echo the oversized skate shoes that dominated the early 2000s, making it a natural match for BAPE’s bold visual identity. The result feels nostalgic without appearing dated, balancing skate culture with contemporary streetwear in a way that feels effortless.

The partnership also continues an increasingly busy year for BAPE. Following collaborations with adidas during the 2026 FIFA World Cup and KidSuper’s football-inspired capsule, the brand once again demonstrates its ability to move seamlessly between sport, skateboarding and fashion without losing its unmistakable identity.

For Vans, the collaboration reinforces the momentum surrounding its lifestyle offerings, with the Knu Skool quickly becoming one of the brand’s most successful modern silhouettes. Pairing it with one of streetwear’s most recognisable camouflage patterns only strengthens its cultural appeal.

More than two decades after both brands helped shape youth culture, BAPE and Vans prove their shared visual language remains just as relevant. The collaboration doesn’t rely on nostalgia alone; instead, it updates familiar icons with enough personality to feel entirely at home in today’s sneaker landscape.

The BAPE x Vans Knu Skool collection launches on July 15 via Vans, BAPE and selected retailers, retailing for $150 per pair.
