HN Clothings has swiftly become one of Africa’s most compelling luxury fashion houses a brand known for its bold fusion of heritage, elegance, and artistry. From the pages of fashion editorials to the racks of global luxury boutiques like Folklore, Coveti, Boujee, Fazal, and Maison Vex, the label is rewriting the narrative of African luxury. La Mode Magazine sits down with its visionary founder and creative director, Chikodinaka Perpetua Chima, to talk about craftsmanship, global partnerships, and the power of cultural identity in high fashion.
La Mode Magazine (LMM):
Chikodinaka, congratulations on the incredible global success of HN Clothings. Your pieces now grace the shelves of elite boutiques like Folklore, Coveti, Boujee, Fazal, and Maison Vex. How did this journey into international luxury retail begin?
Chikodinaka Perpetua Chima (CPC):
Thank you so much! It has been an exciting journey rooted in vision and consistency. From the beginning, I wanted HN Clothings to be more than a brand I wanted it to be a statement of refined African artistry. Our craftsmanship, storytelling, and commitment to quality naturally drew the attention of global buyers. Our first international exposure came through a private fashion showcase attended by representatives from The Folklore Group. They connected deeply with our message that African design can sit proudly beside any global luxury label. From there, Coveti, Boujee, Fazal, and Maison Vex followed, and each collaboration has allowed HN Clothings to share our aesthetic with the world.
LMM:
The boutiques you mentioned Folklore, Coveti, Boujee, Fazal, Maison Vex are known for curating only the most exceptional luxury brands. What makes HN Clothings stand out in such competitive spaces?
CPC:
Each of these boutiques curates brands that embody exclusivity, innovation, and craftsmanship. What distinguishes HN Clothings is our fusion of African heritage with contemporary sophistication. Every piece is handcrafted by skilled artisans using fine fabrics, intricate embroidery, and storytelling design. Our pieces evoke emotion they tell stories of strength, royalty, and beauty. Luxury is not just about price; it’s about meaning. That is what resonates with boutiques and their clientele.
LMM:
The Folklore Group, in particular, has been instrumental in bringing African designers into global conversations. How has your collaboration with them influenced HN Clothings?
CPC:
The Folklore has been a phenomenal partner. They understand the importance of representation and authenticity. Through them, our collections have reached markets in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East audiences that crave diversity in luxury. Working with The Folklore has also strengthened our storytelling approach; they help us communicate not just the design, but the essence behind it the artistry, the heritage, the soul.
LMM:
Tell us about your partnership with Coveti another name synonymous with high-end fashion and artistic innovation.
CPC:
Coveti is an incredible platform for luxury visionaries. They value originality and individuality, which aligns perfectly with HN Clothings. When our “Ethereal Lines” collection debuted there, it sold out within weeks. Coveti customers appreciate craftsmanship and detail, so they gravitated towards our hand-beaded gowns and structured silk ensembles. The partnership has opened doors to clientele who view fashion as collectible art.
LMM:
You also stock with Boujee, Fazal, and Maison Vex all boutique houses known for their curated, opulent selections. How does each partnership reflect the spirit of your brand?
CPC:
Each of these boutiques represents a unique aspect of the HN woman.
- Boujee connects us with the bold, confident, and youthful luxury client someone who loves color, flair, and statement fashion.
- Fazal focuses on timeless elegance; they adore our minimalist luxury pieces and our couture-inspired tailoring.
- Maison Vex is all about prestige and exclusivity. We create limited-edition pieces for them — only a handful of each design ever exist.
These partnerships ensure that no matter where our clients shop, they experience a distinct expression of the HN identity.
LMM:
HN Clothings has been praised for its storytelling approach to fashion. What inspires your creative process?
CPC:
My inspiration comes from heritage, emotion, and architecture. I love transforming traditional African motifs into modern luxury designs. Every stitch, texture, and silhouette carries intention. Our artisans are storytellers too they pour emotion into every piece. That’s what gives our collections a soul.
Luxury, to me, is depth. It’s about pieces that carry meaning, not just adornment.
LMM:
How do you balance preserving African cultural identity while appealing to global luxury markets?
CPC:
By focusing on universality through authenticity. When you design from a place of truth, your work transcends borders. Our fabrics might be African, but our tailoring and finishing meet global couture standards. People don’t buy HN Clothings because it’s African they buy it because it’s beautiful, powerful, and meaningful. The cultural essence just makes it unforgettable.
LMM:
What does luxury mean to you personally, and how is that reflected in your brand?
CPC:
Luxury is intentionality. It’s not just expensive materials; it’s the thought, time, and artistry behind creation. For HN Clothings, luxury means slow fashion each piece is handmade, carefully inspected, and limited in production. When a client wears HN, they know they own something rare and soulful. That’s true luxury.
LMM:
Your work has positioned HN Clothings among the new generation of African brands shaping global couture. What’s next for the brand?
CPC:
We’re expanding our global footprint with exclusive trunk shows in Paris, Lagos, and Dubai next year. Our upcoming collection, “Golden Heritage,” will debut through The Folklore and Coveti simultaneously — a first for us. We’re also opening our private HN Atelier Experience, where clients can have bespoke pieces crafted exclusively for them. It’s all about deepening that emotional connection between our clients and our creations.
LMM:
Finally, what message would you share with emerging African designers hoping to enter the global luxury scene?
CPC:
Stay authentic and patient. Luxury is built over time, not overnight. Focus on mastery, consistency, and storytelling. Don’t chase trends — build legacy. The world is ready for African excellence; you just need to present it with confidence and precision.
LMM:
Beautifully said. Thank you, Chikodinaka, for sharing your journey and inspiring us with your vision of luxury. HN Clothings is truly redefining elegance from Africa to the world.
CPC:
Thank you, La Mode Magazine. It’s an honor to share this journey. The best is yet to come.
