Leonardo DiCaprio and Vittoria Ceretti made their awards season debut as a couple at the 98th Academy Awards, proving that date night at Hollywood’s biggest event can still come with a few surprises.

Like Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner, the pair arrived separately before linking up inside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Nominated for Best Actor for One Battle After Another, DiCaprio kept things classic in a black tuxedo by Dior but it wasn’t the tailoring that had people talking. It was his unexpected mustache.
The actor, known for his typically clean-shaven look, debuted a sharp, military-style handlebar mustache that felt like a bold departure from his usual red carpet grooming. In a twist of fate, Pedro Pascal, who is often associated with facial hair showed up clean-shaven, flipping the script entirely.

While some speculated the look could be tied to his role as Bob Ferguson in One Battle After Another, it’s more likely connected to his upcoming film, What Happens at Night, directed by Martin Scorsese and co-starring Jennifer Lawrence. Early glimpses from the set have already shown DiCaprio leaning into a more vintage-inspired aesthetic, complete with the now-viral mustache.
Inside the ceremony, the couple kept things low-key, seated alongside DiCaprio’s One Battle After Another co-star Teyana Taylor. But it was later at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party that Vittoria Ceretti’s full look took center stage.
The model stepped out in a fitted burgundy gown by Alaïa, featuring a structured square neckline and a sculptural oval overlay emerging from the bust. She finished the look with a slicked-back bun, glowing skin, and statement jewelry from Moussaieff.

Whether it was DiCaprio’s unexpected grooming switch-up or Ceretti’s sleek Alaïa moment, one thing was clear their Oscars debut as a couple did not go unnoticed.
