Meghan Markle Is Returning to Acting — But Not Quite How You’d Expect

It’s been eight years since Meghan Markle last slipped into character — or more specifically, since she left behind Rachel Zane, the whip-smart paralegal who made Suits binge-worthy. What followed was, of course, a royal chapter no script could have prepared her for. Now, the Duchess of Sussex is quietly returning to her first act — Hollywood — but this time, she’s playing the most complex role yet: herself.

According to Variety, Meghan is set to make a cameo in Close Personal Friends, a new comedy featuring Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Henry Golding, and Jack Quaid. Directed by Jason Orley — the mind behind Big Time Adolescence — the film follows two couples whose seemingly harmless friendship takes a turn for the socially awkward. Think: celebrity meet-cute, but with tension simmering beneath the smiles.

Spotted on set in Pasadena earlier this week, Meghan’s appearance in the film isn’t just a Hollywood homecoming; it’s a statement of comfort. After years of being the headline, she’s stepping back into a space where the spotlight is familiar — but this time, she’s in control of the lens.

Before royal duties called, Markle’s filmography included Horrible Bosses and Remember Me — a career she once described as a “closed chapter.” “I’ve ticked this box,” she told Page Six in 2017, “and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team.” But as every creative knows, certain callings don’t stay quiet for long.

The Duchess’s production house, Archewell Productions, has already shaped her as a storyteller off-camera — with Netflix titles like Harry & Meghan, Heart of Invictus, and Live to Lead blending empathy with influence. Her lifestyle series With Love, Meghan dropped its second season this summer, with a festive special set for December.

So, while Close Personal Friends may only offer a cameo, it feels symbolic — less a career pivot and more a gentle nod to the woman she was before the tiaras, and the one she’s crafting after them.

Hollywood, it seems, never really stopped waiting for Meghan Markle.
