Rosé Brings Balletcore to the Racetrack with PUMA’s New Speedcat Étoile

What happens when a motorsport icon gets a ballet-inspired makeover? PUMA has the answer. The sportswear brand has unveiled the Speedcat Étoile, the latest evolution of its revived Speedcat silhouette, fronted by global ambassador and BLACKPINK superstar Rosé.

Once designed for Formula 1 drivers, the Speedcat has undergone one of fashion’s most remarkable transformations. For its newest chapter, PUMA softens the sneaker’s racing DNA with satin-inspired details, oversized ribbon laces, and a pastel pink palette that feels straight out of a ballerina’s dressing room.

Originally introduced in 1999, the Speedcat drew inspiration from the fireproof shoes worn by Formula 1 racers, earning a reputation for its sleek, low-profile design. Nearly three decades later, the silhouette has embraced a more delicate aesthetic without losing the streamlined shape that made it an icon.

The Speedcat Étoile arrives in soft pink suede with satin-like textures layered across the upper. Tonal Formstrip branding runs along the side panels, while oversized ribbon laces replace traditional shoelaces, allowing wearers to tie dramatic bows that tap into fashion’s ongoing love affair with balletcore and coquette styling.

Rosé leads the campaign in a dreamlike, pastel-pink world filled with childhood keepsakes and nostalgic mementos. The visuals capture the feeling of rediscovering a favourite pair of shoes from childhood, blending innocence with contemporary street style in a way that perfectly mirrors the sneaker itself.

The launch marks another milestone in the Speedcat’s impressive comeback. Since returning from the PUMA archives in 2024 to celebrate its 25th anniversary, the silhouette has become one of the most sought-after sneakers in fashion. The family has since expanded to include the Speedcat Ballet, Speedcat Wedge, and Speedcat Mule, attracting fans ranging from Dua Lipa and Emily Ratajkowski to Rosé herself.

With the Étoile, PUMA continues to prove that the Speedcat can evolve beyond its racing origins while remaining one of the brand’s most versatile and recognizable designs. Equal parts sporty, feminine, and nostalgic, it’s a sneaker that feels just as at home on the streets as it would in a fashion editorial.

The PUMA Speedcat Étoile launches globally on July 30 through PUMA, its flagship stores, and selected retailers worldwide.
