Tems Performs “What You Need” Live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

With minimal theatrics and maximum presence, the Grammy winner proves once again that her voice is the moment.

Tems returned to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with a captivating live performance of “What You Need” from her EP Love Is a Kingdom. Styled by Dunsin Wright in a shimmering silver mesh gown, the artist commanded the stage with quiet confidence and undeniable presence.

You may already have “What You Need” on repeat, but experiencing it live is an entirely different feeling. Backed by a live band and backup singers, Tems delivered an unhurried, deeply assured performance that transformed the studio into something far more intimate. There were no distractions — just her voice, the music, and a room that seemed to pause in response.

Her look carried equal weight. The floor-length strapless gown featured a fitted mermaid silhouette that opened into soft layers of gathered tulle at the hem. A textured, ruffled neckline added dimension, while a dramatic tulle overlay swept across the hip, introducing movement without compromising the clean structure of the piece. Beauty was kept intentional, makeup by Kayla Perez and hair by Ashanti Lation, with loose, full curls balancing the elegance of the gown.

“What You Need,” written and produced by Tems alongside GuiltyBeatz, centers on reclaiming independence — a quiet but firm declaration of self-worth. The track appears on Love Is a Kingdom, her third EP released in November 2025 via RCA Records, following her debut album Born in the Wild in 2024. Across seven tracks, the project explores love in its many forms from self-discovery to letting go.

If you haven’t seen the performance yet, this is your sign.
