Yoon Ahn Designs Futuristic Barbie Doll With Ambush and Mattel

Yoon Ahn Gives Barbie an Ambush-Level Makeover

Yoon Ahn’s Barbie era is looking nothing like the one from your childhood.

The Ambush designer has teamed up with Mattel to create her own Barbie doll, drawing from the same instinct that made her experiment with dolls as a child cutting their hair, altering their clothes and turning what she was given into something entirely different.

Interestingly, Ahn wasn’t even much of a Barbie kid growing up. She was more interested in Legos, especially the building, instructions and engineering behind them.

But Barbie became an early creative playground.

That spirit now shows up in the Barbie x Yoon Ambush Doll, which swaps traditional doll glamour for minimalist, robotic styling and metallic finishes. The doll features an entirely new sculpt, while a futuristic robotic cat companion adds another layer to Ahn’s vision.

It’s less “pretty in pink” and more future fashion meets collectible design.

Available exclusively through Mattel Creations from September 4, the collaboration feels like a full-circle moment for a designer who learned early that sometimes the best way to play with fashion is to break the rules first.
