Inside the Oversabi Aunty Premiere Where Big Fashion Took Centre Stage

From the moment guests arrived, it was clear the premiere of Oversabi Aunty was not going to play it safe. And honestly, it didn’t need to. Produced by Toyin Abraham, the comedy-drama sets its sights on familiar family terrain, centring on the well-meaning but endlessly meddlesome aunty whose interference quietly disrupts a marriage. It is the kind of story many Nigerian homes will recognise instantly, delivered with humour and just enough tension to keep things interesting.

The film boasts a cast that feels equally intentional, with Toyin Abraham leading alongside Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Jemima Osunde, Efe Irele, Mike Ezuruonye and Queen Nwokoye. Even before its official release, the premise alone suggests a blend of laughter, lessons and those uncomfortable truths family gatherings often bring to the surface.

But while the storyline sparked curiosity, the fashion at the premiere commanded attention. When a film announces itself as Oversabi Aunty, subtlety was never going to be part of the brief. Guests leaned fully into expressive dressing, choosing looks that felt bold, deliberate and culturally rooted. Sculptural geles rose high in confident shapes, rich lace fabrics were reimagined into iro and buba and other inventive silhouettes, while flowing agabadas arrived finished with generous embroidery and presence.

The atmosphere of the night was unmistakable. This was a celebration of excess done with intention, where style became an extension of personality rather than an afterthought. Every look told its own story, reflecting confidence, flair and a shared understanding of the moment.

In many ways, the premiere felt like a visual prologue to the film itself. Loud, familiar and unapologetically Nigerian. And that is exactly why it worked.
