Milena Smit just proved that even the most ordinary object can become a fashion statement, if you know what to do with it. At the Amarga Navidad photo call in Madrid, the actor turned something as simple as a safety pin into a full-blown red carpet moment.
Stepping out in a delicate, almost weightless slip dress, Smit leaned into a DIY-inspired aesthetic that felt surprisingly accessible at first glance. But this was no last-minute experiment. The look was designed by Dilara Findikoglu, whose work is known for transforming unconventional elements into high-fashion statements.

The dress itself was built on a form-fitting knit base, intentionally minimal to let the detailing take centre stage. Silver safety pins lined the neckline and hem, forming a sculptural corset effect at the top and a loose, fringe-like movement at the bottom. Some pins were clasped traditionally, while others were looped together, creating texture, rhythm, and a sense of fluidity with every step.
Rather than stopping there, Smit leaned fully into the concept. She paired the dress with a coordinating choker crafted from clustered safety pins set against a soft white base with frayed edges, a piece that echoed the same tension between rawness and refinement. Silver sandals tied the metallic elements together, while shimmering eyeshadow and wet-look hair completed the look with a slightly undone, almost otherworldly finish.

It is not the first time safety pins have crossed into high fashion territory. Designers like Versace have famously used them to construct their signature body-hugging dresses, while Moschino and Balmain have long embraced their rebellious, punk-coded appeal. Even Miley Cyrus made headlines with a daring safety pin look by Maison Margiela at the 2024 Grammys.
Still, in Smit’s hands and through Findikoglu’s lens, the safety pin feels refreshed again. Less about shock value, more about craftsmanship and quiet disruption.
Because sometimes, the best place to start is with what you already have.
