Elisabetta Franchi and Filippo Zagagnoni End 24-Year Creative Partnership

One of Italian fashion’s longest-standing creative partnerships has come to an end. Filippo Zagagnoni is officially leaving Elisabetta Franchi after almost 24 years, closing a chapter that helped shape the identity of one of Italy’s most recognizable luxury fashion brands.

According to HUB Style, Zagagnoni is no longer the brand’s head fashion designer, marking a significant shift for the Bologna-based label. His departure surprised many within the fashion industry, where he had become a familiar figure behind the scenes and regularly joined founder Elisabetta Franchi on the runway for final bows after the brand’s fashion shows.

On Saturday, Zagagnoni addressed the news in an emotional Instagram post, thanking supporters while also defending the company he spent more than two decades helping to build.

“Thank you for the countless messages, comments and expressions of affection I’m receiving. Reading them warms my heart and means the world to me.”

He also urged followers not to direct criticism toward the brand or its founder.

“There are people working at that company every day who put commitment, passion and professionalism into what they do. Regardless of how my relationship with the company ended, my respect for their work and for the person who built this organisation will never waver.”

His statement reflected appreciation for both the team and Elisabetta Franchi, despite the unexpected end of their professional relationship.

Zagagnoni’s exit comes at an important moment for the Italian fashion house. The company has yet to release its latest annual financial results, a delay that has attracted attention across the luxury sector and sparked questions about the brand’s current direction.

With Zagagnoni stepping away, creative responsibility is expected to return more directly to founder Elisabetta Franchi, ushering in a new era for the label.

The transition could reshape the brand’s creative identity after nearly a quarter-century of continuity. In today’s luxury market, leadership changes often signal more than personnel shifts—they frequently represent broader strategic and creative transformations.

For now, the fashion industry will be watching closely to see how Elisabetta Franchi evolves without one of its longest-serving creative forces.
