In Nollywood, box office success is hard-earned. Repeating it? Even harder. Doing it three times in a row? That’s history.
Funke Akindele has now crossed the ₦1 billion box office mark with three consecutive films, A Tribe Called Judah, Everybody Loves Jenifa, and the record-shattering Behind the Scenes, which went on to surpass ₦2 billion. Together, the streak positions Akindele as one of Nollywood’s most consistent—and commercially dominant—hitmakers.

The run began in December 2023, when A Tribe Called Judah became the first Nigerian film ever to gross ₦1 billion at the box office. The film reached the milestone in just three weeks and eventually peaked at approximately ₦1.4 billion, rewriting expectations for local cinema. Its emotionally charged story, rooted in family, survival, and maternal devotion—struck a cultural chord and proved that Nigerian stories could scale commercially without losing authenticity.
In 2024, Akindele doubled down by returning to her most iconic franchise. Everybody Loves Jenifa wasn’t just a nostalgia play—it was a box office juggernaut. The film crossed the ₦1 billion mark at record speed and closed its theatrical run with over ₦1.8 billion, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film of the year.

Then came Behind the Scenes.
Released during the 2025 festive season, the film hit ₦1 billion faster than its predecessors before going on to achieve the unprecedented crossing ₦2 billion and becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time. With that feat, Akindele became the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years.
Across these three films, Funke Akindele has generated over ₦5 billion in box office revenue in just over 24 months—a run that moves her success beyond individual blockbusters into the territory of sustained industry dominance.
