A routine logistics inspection in the United Kingdom has unexpectedly pulled Kim Kardashian’s Skims brand into a major international criminal investigation, after authorities discovered millions of dollars worth of cocaine hidden inside a cargo trailer carrying legitimate Skims merchandise.
According to reports from USA Today, the incident unfolded in September 2025 at the Port of Harwich in Essex, where UK Border Force officers stopped a truck arriving from the Netherlands for inspection. The vehicle was transporting 28 pallets of Skims underwear and apparel, all of which were confirmed to be legitimate products. However, the illicit activity was concealed within the structure of the trailer itself.
The case escalated after officers conducting a routine X-ray scan identified structural anomalies in the rear doors of the cargo unit. A subsequent physical search revealed a hidden compartment containing 90 individually wrapped packages of cocaine, each weighing approximately two pounds.
The UK National Crime Agency (NCA) later estimated the total value of the seized drugs at around €7.2 million (approximately $8.4 million USD), marking it as a significant interception within ongoing efforts to disrupt European trafficking routes.
Investigations traced the operation back to the truck driver, identified as 40-year-old Jakub Jan Konkel from northern Poland. Court documents revealed that authorities detected an unexplained 16-minute stop during the journey, which prosecutors argued was the window during which the narcotics were allegedly loaded into the vehicle.
Konkel was later convicted after initially denying involvement before admitting he had agreed to transport the drugs in exchange for payment. He was reportedly promised €4,500 to complete the cross-border delivery. A judge at Chelmsford Crown Court sentenced him to 13 years and six months in prison.
Authorities believe the operation was part of a wider organised trafficking network operating across European freight routes, using commercial shipments as cover for drug movement.
Following the reports, Skims issued a statement clarifying its position, saying the brand had no knowledge or involvement in the incident. “SKIMS is aware of the recent news involving a shipment with our products. We want to be absolutely clear: SKIMS had no knowledge whatsoever about this criminal activity. We had no connection to the smuggling operation, the driver, or the truck.”
The investigation remains focused on identifying the wider network responsible for orchestrating the concealment of the drugs within legitimate commercial freight.
