Priya Ahluwalia Says Joy Belongs in the Fight Too

What if joy is part of the resistance?

That question sits at the heart of Priya Ahluwalia’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection, “Revel.”

Inspired partly by images of the Black Panthers beyond their public activism, Ahluwalia explored the idea that fighting for something does not mean giving up pleasure, style or celebration.

That thinking showed up in a collection that felt more confident in its construction than its decoration. Sharp tailoring met sporty pieces from her ongoing PUMA collaboration, with wrap-panel trousers, satin tops, split-sleeve blousons and a double-panel blazer among the standouts.

The collection also looked to Africa. Jacquard knit patterns drew from the architecture of FESTAC ’77 in Lagos, while subtle West African formalwear references emerged through the fittings.

Colour came in rust, poppy red and dark green, alongside Ahluwalia’s signature denim. Then eveningwear returned, bringing cut-out gowns, puffball tops and playful fringe into the mix.

There was also a quieter idea of protection running through the clothes, expressed through water-resistant fabrics, debossed surfaces and layers of translucent organza.

From protest to parties, migration to movement, Ahluwalia’s message was simple enough to wear — there is room for joy in serious times.
