Anok Yai’s Sardine Beauty Hack: Does It Really Give You Glowing Skin?

Ever since Anok Yai casually dropped her sardine habit as the secret behind her glow backstage at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, the internet has been… understandably intrigued. Sardines? As skincare? It sounds like one of those beauty myths that should stay online but there’s actually a bit more to it.

Let’s be clear: there’s no direct scientific evidence proving that eating sardines will transform your skin overnight. Dermatologists are quick to point out that no clinical studies link sardine consumption to clearer or more radiant skin specifically. So if you’re expecting a miracle fix, this isn’t it.

That said, sardines are doing something right nutritionally. They’re packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which are widely known to support overall skin health. These healthy fats help strengthen the skin barrier by boosting ceramide production, the lipids that keep your skin hydrated and protected. They also help reduce inflammation, which can play a role in breakouts and irritation.

On top of that, sardines are rich in vitamin D and protein. Vitamin D supports skin cell repair and renewal, while protein contributes to collagen production, key for maintaining firmness and elasticity. So while the fish itself isn’t magic, what’s inside it is genuinely beneficial.

Here’s where the internet tends to oversimplify things: sardines alone won’t fix your skin. Think of them as a supporting player, not the main character. Healthy skin is the result of consistency, balanced diet, proper hydration, and a solid skincare routine that actually targets your concerns.

So yes, Anok Yai might be onto something but not in the way TikTok wants you to believe. Sardines can absolutely be part of a glow-boosting lifestyle, just don’t expect them to replace your serums anytime soon.
