The Mary Jane is leaving the schoolgirl wardrobe behind.
Madhappy and KEEN have teamed up to rework the outdoor brand’s archival Malibu Mary Jane, giving the all-terrain silhouette a playful update that sits somewhere between technical footwear and everyday street style.
Originally introduced in 2006, the Malibu Mary Jane gets a distinctly Madhappy treatment through two new plaid colourways: “Rose Plaid” and “Grass Plaid.”
The Rose Plaid version brings a cheerful pink-and-white combination, while Grass Plaid takes its cues from the outdoors with shades of green. Both versions combine two-tone ripstop nylon plaid uppers with premium suede overlays, creating an interesting contrast between rugged materials and the softer, more nostalgic feel of a Mary Jane.
Reflective webbing adds another technical detail, giving the otherwise playful silhouette a performance-inspired finish.

But the collaboration isn’t just about making the shoe look good.
Designed for everyday wear, the Malibu Mary Jane features a dual-density foam midsole, contoured arch support and a soft cotton terrycloth lining for added comfort. Underneath, a high-traction rubber outsole with a multidirectional lug pattern provides grip across different surfaces while keeping the shoe relatively lightweight.
It is a surprisingly easy combination to understand: KEEN brings the outdoor functionality, while Madhappy brings the colour, nostalgia and Los Angeles lifestyle attitude.
The result is a Mary Jane that can work just as easily with casual trousers and denim as it can with shorts, socks or a more playful summer outfit.
And considering the current appetite for footwear that blurs the line between fashion and function, the timing feels right.
The Madhappy x KEEN Malibu Mary Jane is available now in “Rose Plaid” and “Grass Plaid” through the Madhappy and KEEN websites.
