At this year’s Olivier Awards, Cate Blanchett once again reminded the red carpet why she remains one of fashion’s most dependable risk-takers.
Arriving at the Royal Albert Hall for her nomination for Best Actress in The Seagull, Blanchett stepped out in a dark, floor-length gown from Lanvin’s Fall 2026 collection by Peter Copping. At first glance, the silhouette felt restrained and refined but on closer inspection, it revealed a masterclass in modern cutout dressing.

The gown’s structure played with contrast: a halter-inspired bodice paired with a slit skirt and long sleeves that echoed the “cold shoulder” trend, reimagined with sharper tailoring and a more architectural finish. The real focal point sat at the waist, where diamond-shaped lattice cutouts broke up the silhouette in a deliberate, almost sculptural rhythm.
Rather than overwhelm the design, the cutouts worked in harmony with the rest of the dress, supported by subtle rows of black crystal embellishment that added depth and light without disrupting its clean lines. The result was a look that felt precise, controlled, and quietly dramatic.

Styled by Elizabeth Stewart, Blanchett completed the ensemble with crystal-trimmed mules and diamond earrings from Louis Vuitton, echoing the house’s signature floral motif in a minimal, geometric interpretation.
While the night may not have ended in a win, Blanchett once again delivered a red carpet moment that felt like fashion at its most intelligent, proof that understatement, when done right, can still command the loudest attention.
